119th Convocation Ceremony of Savitribai Phule Pune University.
Professor Training Academy at Pune and Baramati Open University Sub-Center-Higher and Technical Education Minister Uday Samant.
Pune: Pune is the cradle of education and in order to bring this identity to the forefront of the world, Savitribai Phule Pune University has provided various facilities for the students; A faculty training academy will be set up at Pune and a sub-centre of Yashwantrao Chavan Maharashtra Open University will be set up at Baramati, said Uday Samant, Minister of State for Higher and Technical Education.
He was speaking on the occasion of the 119th Concovation Ceremony of Savitribai Phule Pune University. The event was held at the Dnyaneshwar Hall of the University and was attended by the Consul General of Australia in Mumbai Peter Trusswell as the Chief Guest.
Mr Samant said that the quality of education will be enhanced through the Professor Training Academy. Consideration is being given to impart necessary training to the professors through Yashada. The Open University has a divisional office at Pune and a sub-centre at Baramati will be started soon. The government is making efforts to ensure that the students make academic progress and get the necessary opportunities for it.
The ‘Earn and Learn’ scheme is being considered in a more comprehensive and innovative way to enable children from poor families to get a quality education. He hoped that the scheme would be disseminated through every university to benefit more children. Mr Samant also expressed the need to teach innovative courses from the university in order to produce students who can successfully face the global competition.
Congratulating the graduating students, he said that the students of the university have done a great job in making the university a leader in the world. The university was established with the aim of giving respect to the Marathi language. Today, the university has crossed the borders of the country and it is a matter of pride for the university to start courses even in a country like Qatar. He hoped that the historical heritage of Pune would be presented to the people of Pune in pictorial form.
He said that the examination system needs to be discussed in the context of corona today and the government is trying to give top priority to the safety of students.
While presenting the report, Vice-Chancellor Dr Nitin Karmalkar reviewed the progress of the university. He said that MoUs have been signed with various institutes to provide quality education opportunities to the students.
During the convocation ceremony, degree certificates were distributed to a total of 3,806 undergraduate and postgraduate students in various disciplines who passed in the year October / November 2020 and before. Out of which 43 graduates were awarded PhD.
Savitribai Phule Pune University Registrar Dr Praful Pawar, Director of Examinations and Evaluation Department Dr Mahesh Kakade and other members of the Management Council, Academic Council members, Senate members, deans of various disciplines, professors and graduate students were present on this occasion.
