New Delhi: The highest civilian Padma Awards were distributed by President Ram Nath Kovind at Rashtrapati Bhavan today. In this program, 4 dignitaries from Maharashtra were honoured with Padma Shri awards.
The Padma Awards are announced every year on the eve of Republic Day. The first phase of the year 2020 awards ceremony was held at the hands of the President in a grand ceremony at the Durbar Hall of the Rashtrapati Bhavan today. In the year 2020, 7 dignitaries from various fields were awarded Padma Vibhushan, 16 dignitaries were awarded Padma Bhushan and 118 dignitaries were awarded Padma Shri. This includes 13 dignitaries from Maharashtra. In today’s award distribution, 4 dignitaries from Maharashtra were honoured with Padma Shri awards.
Dr Raman Gangakhedkar was awarded the Padma Shri for his outstanding work in the field of science and engineering. Mr. Gangakhedkar is a Senior Virologist. He has served as the Head of the Associate and Infectious Diseases Division of the Indian Council of Medical and Research (ICMR). Sarita Joshi was honoured with Padma Shri for her contribution in the field of acting in Hindi, Marathi and Gujarati. In the last 7 decades, he has made his mark in television, drama and cinema. Kangana Ranaut was today awarded the Padma Shri for her work in the field of acting in Hindi cinema. Ms Ranawat has so far been honoured with the National Film Award 3 times for her outstanding performance. Adnan Sami was honoured with the Padma Shri award for his singing in the field of cinema. Mr Sami is also a musician.
