63% turnout for Zilla Parishad and Panchayat Samiti by-elections.
Mumbai: 84 out of 6 Zilla Parishads of Dhule, Nandurbar, Akola, Washim, Nagpur and Palghar; According to preliminary estimates, 63 per cent polling took place today for the by-elections for 141 vacant posts in 38 Panchayat Samitis.
As per the directions of the Supreme Court, the posts of backward class members of citizens in 6 Zilla Parishads of Dhule, Nandurbar, Akola, Washim, Nagpur and Palghar and 38 Panchayat Samitis under them were cancelled. As a result, seats in 85 constituencies of these 6 Zilla Parishads and 144 constituencies of Panchayat Samiti were vacant. One of them is from Dhule Zilla Parishad and two from Shirpur (Dist. Dhule) Panchayat Samiti; The by-election for one seat of Akkalkuwa (District Nandurbar) Panchayat Samiti was held without any objection. Voting for the remaining seats took place today. The counting of votes will start at 10 am tomorrow (Tuesday) at all places.
According to preliminary information, the district-wise turnout is as follows: Dhule – 60, Nandurbar – 65, Akola – 63, Washim – 65, Nagpur – 60 and Palghar – 65. Total average – 63.
