Instructions to set up a task force on the industry: C M Uddhav Thakre
Industry testified to the state government on oxygen storage, vaccination, the health of workers.
Against the backdrop of a possible third wave, a task force on Covid should also be set up for the industrial sector in the state and it should be monitored through the Chief Minister’s Secretariat, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray said today. He also suggested that the economic cycle of the industry should continue even during the Covid period and arrangements should be made to ensure that there is no disruption in production.
The Chief Minister also said that Maharashtra should set an example to the nation that industries continued to operate without stopping production during the Covid period.
To combat the potential third wave of covid, oxygen production, stock planning as well as mass vaccination of workers in the industry, continued economic cycle despite tightening restrictions, preventing production, temporary field accommodation of workers in company premises, working hours, covid incidence. Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray discussed the bio-bubble with the CII officials through a televised system. Industry Minister Subhash Desai, Chief Secretary Sitaram Kunte, Additional Chief Secretary Health Dr Pradeep Vyas and others were present on the occasion.
In this online meeting, CII office bearers Uday Kotak, Niranjan Hiranandani, Harsh Goenka, Salil Parekh, Neel Raheja, Anant Goenka, Baba Kalyani, B Tyagarajan, Jane Karkeda, Anant Singhania, Banamali Agarwal, Nikhil Meswani, Ashwin Yardi, Rashesh Shah, Keshav Murug, Bharat Puri, Asim Charania, Sunil Mathur, Sanjeev Singh, Naushad Forbes, DK Sen, Sulajja Firodia Motwani, Sharad Mahindrami and other industrialists were present.
The Chief Minister said that today about 1300 metric tons of oxygen is produced in the state. If Covid’s challenge increases in the coming period, the demand for oxygen may surpass even the second wave. Therefore, along with the production of oxygen, a large stock of oxygen is required, for which tanks and cylinders are required.
Industries should vaccinate their workers and employees on a large scale. At present, private hospitals have stocks of 25 lakh doses provided by the Center. It should be widely used.
By creating a bio-bubble system that is not affected by covid in small to large industries, safe production should be maintained through it, following health regulations. The Chief Minister said that in case of strict restrictions, planning should be done to set up field accommodation in or near the company premises for the workers so that production would not be affected.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Pradeep Vyas said that last year, 20 lakh patients were found in the first wave, while 40 lakh patients were found in the second wave in just two to three months. He said the policy was to give 25 per cent vaccines to private hospitals and the industry should negotiate with them and vaccinate their workers on a large scale. Industry representatives also assured the state government of full cooperation with Covid and ensure that Covid behaves consistently in the industry. Chief Secretary Sitaram Kunte also said that coordination was being maintained with the industry in this regard.
