Re-meeting on Friday after receiving suggestions, studying available options.
All parties agree that OBCs should get political reservations. In this regard, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray said that a meeting will be held next Friday to study the suggestions received in the all-party meeting, various options and come to a unanimous decision on this.
He was speaking at a meeting of all-party leaders held at the Sahyadri Guest House today regarding the political reservation of OBCs. Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, Revenue Minister Balasaheb Thorat, Public Works Minister Ashok Chavan, Industries Minister Subhash Desai, Urban Development Minister Eknath Shinde, Food and Civil Supplies Minister Chhagan Bhujbal, Other Backward Classes and Bahujan Welfare Minister Vijay Vadettiwar, Transport Minister Adv. Anil Parab, Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Council Praveen Darekar, Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Assembly Devendra Fadnavis, MLA Kapil Patil, MLA Devendra Bhuyar and all party leaders including Vinayak Mete, Jogendra Kawade, Rajendra Gawai, Shailendra Kamble, Balasaheb Dodtule, Milind Ranade, Dr Arun Sawant and other dignitaries were present.
All parties agree that OBCs should get a political reservation in local bodies. Welcoming the suggestions made by all regarding the difficulties in the political reservation, the Chief Minister sought the views of various political parties in this regard in today’s meeting. He said that it was the sentiment of all that local body elections should not be held without OBC reservation. He, meanwhile, said he would study the suggestions and options received in today’s meeting in the coming days and take a unanimous decision on the issue on Friday. He welcomed the presence of all party leaders to take a decision on this important issue and said that all parties should remain united and united for the OBC reservation.
Introducing the meeting, Minister Bhujbal informed about the efforts being made at the government level regarding OBC reservation. Leaders of all parties, including Leader of the Opposition Devendra Fadnavis, shared their views on various options and suggestions for maintaining the reservation. The invited all-party dignitaries thanked the Chief Minister for convening an all-party meeting on this important issue.
The meeting was attended by Chief Secretary Sitaram Kunte, Additional Chief Secretary of Rural Development Rajesh Kumar, Additional Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister Ashish Kumar Singh, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister Vikas Kharge, Principal Secretary of Other Backward Classes and Bahujan Welfare Department J. P. Gupta, Principal Secretary, Urban Development Dr Mahesh Pathak, Principal Secretary, Law and Justice Neeraj Dhote and other senior officials were present.
