About Pradhan Mantri Matruvandana Yojana
Many pregnant women below the poverty line and above the poverty line in the country have to work for wages till the last stage of pregnancy as well as after childbirth without physical ability. This leads to malnutrition in pregnant women and mothers and adversely affects the health of them and their newborns. As a result, the country’s maternal and child mortality rates are rising. The Ministry of Women and Child Development has launched the Pradhan Mantri Matruvandana Yojana across the country from January 1, 2017, with a view to reducing the maternal and child mortality rate and improving maternal and child health. The scheme aims to improve the health of pregnant women and lactating mothers by encouraging them to follow a healthy diet, improve the health of newborns and reduce maternal and child mortality.
