Food security is important for good health; Efforts for this should be faster and wider – CM
A delegation led by Rita Tewatia, President, Food Safety and Standards Authority of India, called on Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray.
Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray said that coronavirus has underscored the importance of our health and food security and hygiene are very important for good health.
The Chief Minister was speaking when a delegation led by Mrs Rita Tewatia, Chairperson, Food Safety and Standards Authority of India, called on Mr Thackeray at the Committee Room at Varsha today.
The Chief Minister also directed that this work should be expedited in coordination with the Public Health Department so that the help of the testing laboratories available with the Health Department in the state could be availed. Food security and hygiene should be reviewed at regular meetings at the state and district levels. He also said that the protection of the health of the people of the state is a matter of priority before the government today.
During the meeting, various issues related to food security and hygiene were discussed. The delegation said that the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSAI) would provide funds to the state for food sample testing laboratories as well as other initiatives.
Mr Singh informed about the measures being taken by the state government in relation to food security and sanitation at the municipal, municipal and district levels. Mrs Tewatia was informed about the schemes and initiatives being implemented by the Food Security Authority of India.
