Nagpur: In order to convince the workers in the industry sector about the importance of voting and to register their names in the electoral roll, the industry organizations should make efforts to increase the turnout by holding camps in this sector, said Principal Secretary and Chief Electoral Officer Shrikant Deshpande.
He was speaking at a meeting of industry representatives held at the Bachat Bhavan hall of the Collectorate. Collector Vimala R., Deputy District Election Officer Minal Kalaskar, Tehsildar Rahul Sarang were present.
The State Election Commission analyzes the electoral rolls of Gram Panchayat, Panchayat Samiti, Zilla Parishad, Vidhan Sabha and Lok Sabha. In general, the turnout in a general election is 60 to 70 per cent. Therefore, a special camp is being organized in the industry sector to increase the turnout percentage under a special brief revision program. He said that new voters should be made aware of the voting process by providing information about the voter registration process such as photographs, names, required documents, etc., he said.
The draft voter list will be prepared on November 1. Forms 6, 8 and 14 should be filled by organizing camps in the industrial area from 1st to 15th November. He said that the general manager of the district industry department and the regional officers of the Maharashtra Industrial Corporation should work in coordination and co-operate with the administration in this work.
A special camp has been organized on November 16 in all the gram panchayats in the state. The voter list will be read in it. The camp will also register new voters, remove married women from the village and register married women in the village, as well as register and mark the disabled. He appealed for voter awareness in the industrial sector through posters and hoardings.
It is your duty to vote. At the same time, there is a right, there will be public awareness about this. He instructed the Collector to give priority to increasing the percentage of voters by creating voter awareness in the Nagpur division.
