Maharashtra’s Environmental Conservation Efforts Recognized by United Nations Climate Change Council; Maharashtra’s prestigious award at the international level.
Mumbai: Maharashtra’s efforts for environmental conservation have been noted by the United Nations Climate Change Council. Maharashtra has received the award for ‘Inspiring Regional Leadership’ at the COP26 Conference in Scotland. This award is dedicated to the people of Maharashtra and the country’s environmental conservation goal said the state’s environment minister Aditya Thackeray.
Maharashtra has received this award from the Under 2 Coalition for Climate Action. Maharashtra is the only Indian state in Scotland to win one of the three awards from the Under 2 Coalition for Climate Action. Environment Minister Aditya Thackeray accepted the award on behalf of the state. Special attention was paid to the state’s climate partnership and Creative Climate Solutions. Climate groups around the world are working with local government bodies for a sustainable future, and we will work with them on a variety of measures. The Minister of Environment, Mr Thackeray, has also mentioned that he is satisfied that these efforts of Maharashtra have gained distinct recognition at the international level.
Mr Aditya Thackeray said, Maharashtra is taking the initiative to tackle climate change. Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray is a wildlife lover and conservationist. They have given us the opportunity to dream of a better and greener future. We have started the ‘My Planet’ movement to protect the environment. At the same time, we are focusing on the Panchmahabhutas. The state government is considering clean energy instead of conventional energy. Minister Aditya Thackeray also said that a highway has been solarized recently and will generate 250 MW of energy.
Mr Aditya Thackeray said that the time has come for collective efforts and constructive and meaningful action to work on this global issue without geography, ethnic boundaries, nationality or gender. We are really pleased that our sincere efforts and contributions to climate action have been recognized by the Under 2 Coalition.
Maharashtra’s efforts to conserve the environment at the sub-national level have been recognized by the Under World Coalition, the largest global network committed to climate action. So, British Columbia (Canada) for Creative Climate Solutions and Quebec (Canada) for Climate Partnership won the other two awards. Maharashtra had given entries for all the three categories of Under-2.
Maharashtra has joined the United Nations ‘Race to Zero’ initiative as well as the C-40 cities initiative to address global climate change.
