Mumbai: The state government has decided to fill the vacancies of 2088 assistant professors and 370 principals in the recognized non-government aided colleges under the auspices of the Directorate of Higher Education, informed Higher and Technical Education Minister Uday Samant at a press conference.

Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar and the Finance Department have agreed to relax the recruitment process pending for health reasons. The recruitment will be done in phases and a government decision in this regard will be issued soon, said Mr Samant.

Higher and Technical Education Minister Uday Samant said that out of the posts of principals, teachers and non-teachers in the higher education department, a total of 4738 posts were approved by the state high-level secretarial committee. Out of which 1674 posts have been filled to date. Due to the outbreak of Kovid-19, the state government had imposed restrictions on recruitment for one and a half to two years. To fill 100% vacancies of 370 principals till date. Approved by Government Resolution dated 23rd March 2021. The recruitment process has also started. It has now been approved to fill the vacancies of principals.

On October 1, 2020, based on the number of students, the department had submitted a proposal to the finance department to fill the posts of assistant professors. But approval has been given to fill 2088 posts. A ruling in this regard will be issued soon. The recruitment process will be done in a transparent manner and the successful candidates will be appointed in the academic year 2022-23, said Mr Samant.

Old pension for non-net / set teachers

October 23, 1992, The services of non-net / rot teachers appointed during the period of 3rd April, 2000 have been continued till retirement without interruption. They were given a new defined contribution pension scheme. Non-net / set teachers appointed during this period did not get retirement benefits. As per the order of the High Court, a decision was taken on 29 October 2021 to allow the old retirement pay to the non-net / set teachers appointed during this period taking into account the date of their original appointment as per the prevailing policy. Mr Samant also said that due to this decision, 4133 general teachers have benefited from the old retirement scheme.

25% increase in honorarium for junior lecturers on Tasika principle

It has been decided to revise the honorarium rate of junior lecturers working on an hourly basis for undergraduate and postgraduate posts in government and aided colleges under the auspices of the Directorate of Higher Education. The honorarium has been increased by a whopping 25 per cent over a period of only 3 years. In non-government aided colleges, in the year 2018-19, a total of 9331, in 2019-20, 7212 and in 2020-21, a total of 2264 teachers were working on Tasika principle.

Committee on New Alternative Policy for Appointment on Tasika Principle

A committee has been constituted under the chairmanship of the Director, Higher Education, Pune to review the appointment policy on Tasika principle and recommend a new alternative policy to the Government. Further action will be taken after receiving the report of this committee, said Mr Samant.

Vaccination of students under Mission Youth Health Initiative

This initiative has been implemented from 25th October 2021 to 2nd November 2021 and a total of 81880 students have been vaccinated under the Department of Higher Education. Also, Mr Samant informed that a total of 27031 students have been vaccinated under the Technical Education Department.
