National Medical Commission approves 100 MBBS seats for Satara Government Medical College; The course starts next year.
Mumbai: – The National Medical Commission has approved 100 seats for the MBBS syllabus for Satara Government Medical College announced in the budget by Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar. With the sanction of 100 seats for the MBBS course, the way is now open for Satara Medical College to start from next year. After the announcement in the budget, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar organized regular meetings and tried to start this college throughout the year. The Deputy Chief Minister removed all the hurdles from providing space to the college and paved the way for starting this medical college from next year. District Guardian Minister Balasaheb Patil has thanked the Deputy Chief Minister for that.
The National Medical Commission has recently sent a letter to the dean of Satara District Hospital and College informing that it is approving 100 seats for the MBBS course for Satara Medical College. This will make the health service in Satara district more efficient and also create 100 MBBS seats, which will also benefit the students in the state who are seeking admission for medical courses, said the district’s Guardian Minister Balasaheb Patil.
Informing about the efforts made to start the Government Medical College at Satara during the year, Guardian Minister Balasaheb Patil said that 64 acres of land in the Krishnanagar area of Water Resources Department should be allotted for Government Medical College at Satara and 70 acres of government land in Khawli village A special meeting was held in the presence of Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar in the hall of the Legislative Council Speakers. Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister Ajit Pawar have assured that there will be no shortage of funds for the medical college as it is a need of the people of Satara. The work of the college has gained momentum according to the instructions of the Deputy Chief Minister that the construction of the building should be done in an artistic, quality manner with a view to the next hundred years.
Until the new building is made available for the college, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar has been instructed to operate the medical college in the district from the coming academic year using the district hospital and health system. With the co-operation of the Deputy Chief Minister and the approval of 100 seats for MBBS by the National Medical Commission, the way has been opened for the people of Satara to fulfil their desire for a medical college.
The question of Government Medical College at Satara was pending for many years. In January 2012, Rs 419 crore was sanctioned for Satara, a 100-bed medical college and an attached 500-bed hospital, but no further action was taken. Considering the needs of the people of Satara, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar took the initiative to resolve the issue. Accordingly, it has been decided to give 64 acres of land of Water Resources Department at Krishnanagar near Satara city to Government Medical College and in return transfer 70 acres of government land in Khavali village under the control of District Collector to Water Resources Department.
