Girls in ITI will get innovative skills training

Mumbai: The State Government’s Department of Skill Development, Employment and Entrepreneurship and UN Women will jointly implement a flight project for girls in Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs). Under this, coding as well as other soft skills will be taught to ITI girls. The event was recently launched online. Manisha Verma, Principal Secretary, Department of Skill Development; Vikas Chandra Rastogi, Principal Secretary, Department of Higher and Technical Education; Kanta Singh, Senior Officer, UN Women; Suvarna Kharat, Director of Vocational Education and Training Digambar Dalvi, Rutuja Pangaonkar of UN Women, Mrs Sujan were present on the occasion.
Skills Development, Employment and Entrepreneurship Minister Nawab Malik wished for the flight program. He said that this program will increase the attraction of girls towards ITIs and through them, they will get opportunities for skill development as well as employment and self-employment.
Manisha Verma, Principal Secretary, Department of Skill Development, Employment and Entrepreneurship, said that the department was making efforts to increase the enrollment of girls in industrial training institutes in Maharashtra. In all of these endeavours, it is important to achieve empowerment that encourages women as well as overcoming obstacles to their success. Better representation of women in the business sector as well as in senior leadership positions should be ensured. He hoped that the flight program would be an effective step towards encouraging women by removing obstacles to their advancement in vocational education.
Aarti Chandranarayan, a student at Mahila ITI, Dadar, said that after completing the training under the FLIGHT program, every student will get employment opportunities. She appealed to the girls to come forward for admission to ITI.
The flight program will be attended by industrial training institutes (ITIs), polytechnics and colleges in the state. The flight program will be jointly organized by the Department of Higher and Technical Education, Skill Development, Department of Employment and Entrepreneurship, UN Women, their coordinators and other affiliated organizations. The Department of Skills Development and UN Women recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen mechanisms for gender equality and women’s empowerment, particularly in areas related to skills education, employment and entrepreneurship. Under this, a flight project will be implemented. The flight program will be funded by PROSUS Group. PRDAAN and B-ABLE will be involved in the implementation of this program.
