Clean Survey-2021 Clean Friends Safety Challenge and Garbage Free Cities
Lonavla and Saswad have been awarded national awards.

Pune – Swachh Mitra Suraksha Challenge 2021 conducted by Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Lonavla and Saswad in the district in the city of Safai Mitra Suraksha Challenge has been announced on 9th November. The award will be presented at Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi.
Junnar, Shirur, Lonavla, Saswad, Jejuri, Indapur will also be awarded as waste-free cities by the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs. District Collector Dr Rajesh Deshmukh has congratulated the Mayor, Chief Officers, Officers-Employees and Citizens of the Municipal Council for this achievement.
Under the Swachh Survey, the Lonavla Municipal Council has levied fines by raising public awareness about the waste caused by tourists. Installed twin bins with lead lids in commercial, tourist and public places. This helped reduce the amount of waste that falls in the open in the city. In Lonavla city household waste is segregated. Wet, dry, hazardous and plastic as well as hazardous and sanitary waste are segregated. The rate of waste segregation is 100 per cent. Citizens of the city make their own compost from their home kitchen waste.
STP project and FSTP project have been constructed at Dongargaon by the Municipal Council for wastewater treatment in the city. Out of the total 40 toilets, 10 toilets have been declared as starred toilets. The starred toilet offers more facilities than usual such as hand wash, head dryer, sanitary napkin, incinerator machine.
Under the Swachh Survey, 100 per cent wet and dry waste was sorted from house to house by Saswad Municipal Council. Reusable cloth bags have been made available to the citizens at a low cost while effectively enforcing the ban on plastics. The city’s old waste is 100 per cent scientifically processed. Various campaigns were launched to convince the citizens of the importance of wet and dry waste sorting.
Dry waste coming to the landfill is sorted and recycled. Wet waste is processed by the Municipal Council to produce organic manure. It has also been made available to farmers under the government’s ‘Green Brand’.
Under the Hagandari Mukta Gaon Yojana, personal toilets have been constructed for 600 beneficiaries. The city received ODF Double Plus status. Saswad Municipal Council has planted and nurtured more than 6000 trees in the city. In order to reduce pollution, eco-friendly idols have been constructed during the festive season.
