Pune: Food and Civil Supplies Minister Chhagan Bhujbal today instructed to erect a statue of Savitribai Phule in front of the main building of Savitribai Phule Pune University. He also said that the government is trying to erect a statue on the birth anniversary of Savitribai Phule on January 3.
Mr Bhujbal inspected the site of the university today regarding the erection of the Savitribai Phule statue. This time he was talking. Former MP Sameer Bhujbal, Savitribai Phule Pune University Vice-Chancellor Dr Nitin Karmalkar, Q-Vice Chancellor Dr.N. S. Umrani, Member of Management Council Rajesh Pandey, Registrar Dr Praful Pawar, Dr Sanjay Chakne, Dr Mahesh Abale, Dr Sudhakar Jadhav, Prasenjit Fadnavis, Dr Manohar Chaskar, Senior Researcher Hari Narke were present.
Mr Bhujbal said that further decisions in this regard will be taken at the earliest by holding a meeting with the concerned officials in the presence of Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar and Higher and Technical Education Minister Uday Samant. The university administration should take necessary steps to get the necessary permission for the erection of the statue as soon as possible. He was also instructed to send a detailed project report to the government immediately to get funds for the Savitribai Phule memorial in the university premises.
