Food and Drug Administration seizes Rs 48 lakh in objectionable drug advertisement cases.Food-And-Drug-Administration

MUMBAI: Zee Laboratories Ltd., Poanta Sahib, Himachal Pradesh, the maker of “Mayfair Cream”, has been found guilty of printing an offensive text on its drug labels, “Incredible Beauty” and its brochure, “Skin colour brightens”. A stock of Rs 34 lakh has been confiscated, said D R Gahane, Joint Commissioner, Food and Drug Administration and Drug Control Authority.

The action was taken in violation of the Schedule to Medicines and Cosmetics Act 1940 and Rule 106. Thane Drug Inspectors Prashant Aswar and Raskar have seized stocks at Bhiwandi and Drug Inspector Mahesh Chaudhary at Nagpur. Further investigation is underway.

Manufacturers of Medicines and Cosmetics shall not publish advertisements in violation of the provisions of the Medicines and Witchcraft Act (Offensive Advertisements) Act 1954 and Rules 1955 and the Medicines and Cosmetics Act 1940 and Rules 1945. The administration has appealed to the Food and Drug Administration to contact the helpline number 1800222365 if any such objectionable advertisements are found.
