Mumbai: Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari has stated that serving the people is the basic principle of democracy.

He was speaking at the unveiling of the logo and website of the daily news portal ‘The Democracy’ at the Raj Bhavan on Friday.

Former Vice-Chancellor of Mumbai University and former Rajya Sabha Member Dr Bhalchandra Mungekar, Former Minister Dr Deepak Sawant, Advertising and Playwrights Bharat Dabholkar and Makrand Deshpande, Choreographer Sandeep Soparkar, Dr Mukesh Batra of Batra Clinic, Transgender Activist Lakshmi Tripathi, Right to Information Activist Vivek Velankar Chartered Officer Mahesh Jhagde, social activist Chitra Wagh, bird-lover Sunish Kunju and others were awarded the ‘Pillar of Democracy’ award.
