The first patient of Omicron variant in Maharashtra in Kalyan Dombivali.
Mumbai: A 33-year-old man who arrived in Mumbai on November 24 from Cape Town, South Africa via Dubai and Delhi, was found to have a variant of Omicron, according to laboratory tests. This is the first case of this new virus in the state.
The youth is a resident of the Kalyan Dombivali Municipal Corporation area and has not been vaccinated against Covid. On 24th November 2021, the passenger developed a mild fever but no other symptoms were found.
Therefore, the patient’s condition is mild and he is currently undergoing treatment at Covid Care Center, Kalyan Dombivali.
Twelve high-risk close associates and 23 low-risk close associates of the patient have been identified and all of them have been found to be covid negative. Apart from this, 25 co-passengers of the flight taken by the youth from Delhi to Mumbai were also examined and all of them were found to be covid negative. In addition, more close associates are being sought.
Meanwhile, a report of genetic testing of a 60-year-old man from Zambia who arrived in Pune from the National Institute of Virology has also been received.
Till this morning, all the 3839 passengers from high-risk countries have been RTPCR checked at Mumbai International Airport and out of 17,107 passengers from other countries, 344 passengers have been RTPCR checked.
An inspection at the Mumbai airport from December 1 to date has found 8 passengers infected with covid and their samples have been sent for genetic testing. Apart from this, a regional survey of international travellers arriving in the state from November 1 is also underway.
Mutations in the virus are a natural process and the public should not be intimidated by the practice of cowardice in their daily routine, citizens should complete their vaccinations and travellers who have come to India on international trips in the last month should also inform the local health department about them. It has been done to all the people on behalf of the department.
