The disabled will get the renewed service of Raigad ropeway free of cost
Pune: At the request of Shiva devotees, President Ramnath Kovind went to the fort today by rope-way from the base without landing a helicopter directly on Raigad.
The President was accompanied by Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari, MP Sambhaji Raje Chhatrapati and MP Sunil Tatkare. This is a testament to the fact that even the most important people like the President have benefited from the ropeway service, which is a testament to the safety of the ropeway.
The inauguration ceremony of the ropeway’s renovation took place last Friday, three days ago, at the hands of Padma Shri Muralikant Petkar, India’s first Paralympic gold medalist. It was announced that the ropeway service would be provided free of cost for the disabled for the next one year on the occasion of World Disability Day.
Mahad MLA Bharatsheth Gogavale, Hirkanwadi Sarpanch Prerna Sawant, Zilla Parishad member Sanjay Kachare, Shri Shivaji Raigad Smarak Mandal functionary Sudhir Thorat, historian P.K. Ghanekar, Director of Millennium Properties Devdutt Chandavarkar, Rajendra Jog and Vaishali Jog were present on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Chandavarkar said that at present, 12 persons can go to Raigad at a time. Now the ropeway has been renovated to make it more robust and use new technology so that 24 people can go at a time, but the government has not yet given its approval for the increased capacity. It has been renovated by developing all the technologies from the concept of Atma Nirbhar Bharat and also adding trolleys with new colours.
Director Mrs Vaishali Jog said that due to the care taken in terms of safety, the ropeway has been started without any accident in the last 25 years and about 25 lakh citizens have benefited from it. The rope-way has provided a great deal of employment to local residents through jobs and industry. The 25-year-old Raigad ropeway has been redefined.
MLA Gogavale praised the ropeway project and felicitated the ropeway director on behalf of the Gram Panchayat. Welcoming and introductory remarks were made by Sudhir Thorat and the program was moderated by Madhura Jog.
