Pune: The Asian Cup Women’s Football Championship is organized by the Asian Football Confederation from January 20 to February 6, 2022. Sports Commissioner Omprakash Bakoria suggested that all the departments should work in coordination for the 12-nation event, which is being attended by 12 countries in Asia, including Australia.
Today at Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex Balewadi, Sports Commissioner Mr Bakoria reviewed the preparations for the Asian Cup Women’s Football Tournament.
Taking a detailed look at the pre-preparation work of the competition, Mr Bakoria said that the competition will be held in Pune, Navi Mumbai and Mumbai. It is the largest football competition in Asia.
A total of 12 countries from Australia and Asia including India, China, Thailand, Chinese Taipei, Philippines, Iran, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Vietnam and Myanmar are participating. A total of 27 matches will be played. The first five teams from the Asian Women’s Championship will be selected for the 2023 FIFA World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.
Coordination of all departments will be crucial in the planning of the Asian Cup Women’s Football Championship. Mr Bakoria suggested that all the works should be completed in time with proper planning and coordination.
The meeting reviewed various issues including security arrangements, transport arrangements, facilities for conducting covid tests, road works and beautification, water supply system, fire fighting system, competition publicity, electrical system, the appointment of nodal officers etc.
After the meeting, senior officials of all the departments inspected the venue of the competition.
