Vaccination should be stepped up in the state against the backdrop of increasing Covid infection – Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray.
Mumbai: Covid infection is on the rise and vaccination needs to be stepped up to prevent it. We have to be more vigilant and take strict steps, said Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray. He also directed that a meeting of the task force should be held in the next one or two days.
Concerns over Covid’s growing contagion were raised at a state cabinet meeting. Dr Pradeep Vyas, Additional Chief Secretary, Department of Health, in his presentation, expressed the possibility of an increase in the number of active patients of Covid in mid-January. He said there was a need to speed up vaccination. A few days ago we were giving 8 lakh doses a day, now 5 lakh doses are given daily.
The Chief Minister directed all the Guardian Ministers to follow up and see to it that vaccination is carried out expeditiously in their respective districts.
Giving more information, Dr Vyas said that as of December 8, there were 6200 active patients. But today there are 10 thousand active patients. Overall, the number of active patients has increased by 50 per cent in the last 20 days and the number of patients has tripled in the last six days. He said the positivity rate in the state was 1.06 per cent.
