Action will be taken against the college which demands scholarship money from the students.
MUMBAI: The government of India is demanding post-matric scholarships for students belonging to Scheduled Castes through the Department of Social Welfare, as well as state government tuition fees, examination fees and reimbursement schemes. Students and parents have also lodged complaints with the government and regional offices of the social welfare department in the state regarding the obstruction of documents and results. The complaint has been taken seriously by the Social Welfare Department and the Commissioner, Social Welfare has directed the state universities to take immediate action against the colleges which do not comply with the orders of the government, the Assistant Commissioner of Social Welfare said in a press release.
Centrally sponsored ‘Government of India Post Matric Scholarship’ and State Government’s ‘Tuition Fee, Examination Fee Reimbursement Freeship Scheme’ are important schemes. For these scholarship schemes, as per the guidelines issued by the government from time to time since 2003, the college or institution should not demand any fee from the Scheduled Caste students enrolled in any course or even block the documents by insisting on payment of fees otherwise legal action will be taken against the colleges.
In spite of the guidelines issued by the government and the instructions issued by the Department of Social Welfare from time to time, many colleges and institutes are giving conditional admission to SC students and also demanding that students pay the fees first and then repay the scholarship. This is against the law and guidelines issued by the government.
In a letter dated 15th November 2021, instructions have been given to the management and heads of such educational institutions to instruct the heads of the universities to comply with the directives of the government. Satisfaction is provided by Ingle.
