Air Intelligence unit seizes Rs. 240 Crore worth Heroin at CSMIA, Mumbai; arrests 3 persons.
Air Intelligence Unit of Mumbai Airport has seized 35 kg of Heroin from two Zimbabwean passengers at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA), Mumbai.
The Zimbabwean passengers travelled on Flight No. ET 610 from Harare to Addis Ababa and from Addis Ababa to Mumbai, yesterday 09th December 2021. X-ray screening of their checked-in bags revealed suspicious images of the contents.
Four checked-in bags were subjected to physical examination and that resulted in the recovery of plastic pouches containing off white colour powdery substance concealed in false chambers under the bag lining. Test analysis has established that the powdery substance is “Heroin”. A search of the four bags resulted in the recovery of (approx.) 35.386 kgs of Heroin concealed in the bags. The value of the contraband in the local illicit market is estimated at Rs.. 240 Crore (approx.)
Both the passengers have been arrested under the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Interrogation of the arrested persons revealed the identity of a local contact person of the arrested duo. Customs officers launched surveillance to find the local contact person. He has been located and arrested today 10th December 2021. Further investigations are in progress.
