An international sports university will be set up in Pune.
The emphasis is on building an international sports university on the principle of ‘health is wealth’ to complement the new generation of sports. The intention is to produce talented players from this university to make the name of the state shine nationally as well as internationally. Sports and Youth Welfare Minister Sunil Kedar stated that through the International Sports University, it will be developed as a place of priority for sports education in the state and the country by excelling in the field of sports.
A review meeting was held at Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex, Mahalunge-Balewadi, Pune in the presence of senior MP Sharad Pawar to discuss ‘International Sports University Maharashtra’. Minister of State for Sports and Youth Welfare Ku. Aditi Tatkare along with eminent sports experts, players and senior officials of the concerned department were present.
In his introductory speech, Sports and Youth Welfare Minister Mr Kedar said that the state government is making efforts to bring the Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex at Mahalunge-Balewadi on the world map. Expressing confidence that an international standard international sports university would be set up to enhance the quality of research, training and skill development, the experts in the field of sports should make their contribution to the establishment of the university, appealed the Minister for Sports and Youth Welfare Mr Kedar. He said that he would help the financially poor players through this university.

MP Sharad Pawar said that their knowledge should be utilized with the help of International Sports University. Efforts should be made to make the name of this university national as well as international. As a result of all this, the university should be seen as a hub for producing talented players both nationally and internationally. Mr Pawar also said that people in the business world should be involved in the development of sports infrastructure through the Social Responsibility Fund.
Minister of State for Sports and Youth Welfare Ms Aditi Tatkare in her gratitude speech said that International Sports University is an ambitious project of the state government. He said that the university is trying to develop talented players of the best quality.
Mrinal Vaidya, a taekwondo fighter, was felicitated for winning a bronze medal at the 2nd Asian Cadet Taekwondo Championships in Vietnam.
Leading experts in the field of sports gave important suggestions on various topics of the International Sports University.
Initially, dignitaries inspected various development works at Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex, Mahalunge-Balewadi, Pune.

नवीन पिढी क्रीडा पूरक घडविण्यासाठी ‘आरोग्य हीच संपत्ती’ या तत्वावर आंतरराष्ट्रीय क्रीडा विद्यापीठ उभारणीवर भर आहे. राज्याचे नाव राष्ट्रीय तसेच आतंरराष्ट्रीय पातळीवर झळकविण्यासाठी या विद्यापीठातून प्रतिभावंत खेळाडू घडविण्याचा मानस आहे. आंतरराष्ट्रीय क्रीडा विद्यापीठाच्या माध्यामातून क्रीडा क्षेत्रात उत्कृष्ट कामगिरी करुन राज्य व देशात क्रीडा शिक्षणास प्राधान्य देणारे ठिकाण म्हणून विकसित करणार असल्याचे प्रतिपादन क्रीडा व युवक कल्याणमंत्री सुनील केदार यांनी केले.
ज्येष्ठ खासदार शरद पवार यांच्या प्रमुख उपस्थितीत शिवछत्रपती क्रीडा संकुल म्हाळुंगे-बालेवाडी पुणे येथे ‘आंतरराष्ट्रीय क्रीडा विद्यापीठ महाराष्ट्र’ या विषयांवर चर्चा करण्यासाठी आढावा बैठक आयोजित करण्यात आली होती. यावेळी क्रीडा व युवक कल्याण राज्यमंत्री कु. आदिती तटकरे यांच्यासह क्रीडा विभागातील नामवंत तज्ज्ञ, खेळाडू तसेच संबंधित विभागाचे वरिष्ठ अधिकारी उपस्थितीत होते.
आंतरराष्ट्रीय क्रीडा विद्यापीठ क्रीडा शिक्षणास प्राधान्य देणारे ठिकाण म्हणून विकसित करणार.
क्रीडा व युवक कल्याणमंत्री सुनील केदार
प्रास्ताविक भाषणात क्रीडा व युवक कल्याणमंत्री श्री.केदार म्हणाले, शिवछत्रपती क्रीडा संकुल म्हाळुंगे-बालेवाडी येथील परिसर जगाच्या नकाशावर येण्यासाठी राज्यशासन प्रयत्नशील आहे. संशोधन, प्रशिक्षण व कौशल्य विकास यामधील गुणवत्ता वाढविण्यासाठी आंतरराष्ट्रीय दर्जाचे आंतरराष्ट्रीय क्रीडा विद्यापीठ उभारणी करु,असा विश्वास व्यक्त करत क्रीडा क्षेत्रातील तज्ज्ञ व्यक्तींनी विद्यापीठ उभारणी करीता आपले मार्गदर्शनपर योगदान द्यावे, असे आवाहनही क्रीडा व युवक कल्याणमंत्री श्री.केदार यांनी केले. आर्थिकदृष्टया गरीब असलेल्या खेळाडूंना या विद्यापीठाच्या माध्यमातून मदत करणार असल्याचे त्यांनी यावेळी स्पष्ट केले.
खासदार शरद पवार म्हणाले, आंतरराष्ट्रीय क्रीडा विद्यापीठची मदत घेवून त्यांचा ज्ञानाचा उपयोग करुन घ्यावा. या विद्यापिठाचे नाव राष्ट्रीय तसेच आंतराष्ट्रीय पातळीवर येण्यासाठी प्रयत्न करावे. या सर्वांचा परिणाम म्हणून राष्ट्रीय तसेच आंतरराष्ट्रीय स्तरावर चांगले प्रतिभावंत खेळाडू घडविणारे केंद्र म्हणून या विद्यापीठाकडे बघितले गेले पाहिजे. उद्योग जगतातील लोकांना सामाजिक उत्तरदायित्व निधीच्या माध्यमातून क्रीडा क्षेत्रातील पायाभूत सुविधांचा विकास करण्यासाठी सहभागी करुन घ्यावे, असेही खासदार श्री.पवार यावेळी म्हणाले.
क्रीडा व युवक कल्याण राज्यमंत्री कु.आदिती तटकरे यांनी आपल्या आभारप्रदर्शन भाषणात म्हणाल्या, आंतरराष्ट्रीय क्रीडा विद्यापीठ हा राज्यशासनाचा महत्वकांक्षी प्रकल्प आहे. या विद्यापिठाच्या माध्यमातून उत्तम दर्जाचे प्रतिभावंत खेळाडू घडविण्याचा प्रयत्न असल्याचे त्यांनी यावेळी सांगितले.
यावेळी तायक्वांदोपट्टू मृणाल वैद्य हिचा व्हियतनाम येथे झालेल्या दुसऱ्या एशियन कॅडेट तायक्वांदो चॅम्पियनशीप स्पर्धेत कास्यपदक जिकंल्याबद्दल सत्कार करण्यात आला.
क्रीडा विभागातील नामवंत तज्ज्ञांनी आंतराष्ट्रीय क्रीडा विद्यापिठाच्या विविध विषयांवर महत्वपूर्ण सूचना केल्या. प्रांरभी शिवछत्रपती क्रीडा संकुल म्हाळुंगे-बालेवाडी पुणे येथील विविध विकास कामांची मान्यवरांनी पाहणी केली.
