Athletes participating in Tokyo Olympics 2020 felicitated by Sports Minister Sunil Kedar
Pune, Dec 14: Sports and Youth Welfare Minister Sunil Kedar felicitated the participants of Tokyo Olympics 2020 and Asian Games Jakarta 2018 by awarding cash prizes to the medal-winning athletes and sports guides.
The event was organized by the Directorate of Sports and Youth Services at Hotel Orchid, Mahalunge-Balewadi. Member of the Governing Council of Sports University Maharashtra, Joint Director Chandrakant Kamble was present.
Mr Kedar said that an International Sports University is being set up to secure the future of the next generation of players. The Government of Maharashtra will take care of the future of the players as well as assist them in achieving success at the international level. He said that the cooperation of the players and the mentors is an attempt to uplift the name of the state in the field of sports.
In the introduction, Mr Bakoria informed about the facilities and financial assistance provided by the state government for the players. He said that 7 athletes and 3 para-athletes from the participating states performed well in the Tokyo Olympics. He said efforts were being made to set up synthetic tracks in every district.
Shooting coach Suma Shirur was felicitated by the Sports Minister. International archer Rahi Sarnobat, Tejaswini Sawant, archer Praveen Jadhav, badminton player Chirag Shetty, athlete Avinash Sable, sailor Vishnu Saravanan, golfer Udayan Mane, Para Olympic nominee Swaroop Jadhavliatha and Shri Jadhav The players were honoured with medals. At the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta, Jaggi Shivdasani, Ajay Khare, Raju Tolani, Hema Deora, Gopinath Manna, Rajiv Khandelwal, Himani Khandelwal and mentor Keshav Samant were awarded Rs 20 lakh each.
