CM convenes meetings of senior police officers; Important tips for women’s safety in Mumbai.
The brutal rape and subsequent death of a woman in Sakinaka is a very unfortunate incident and the accused should be charged within a month. Show the monsters what speedy justice is so that no one will dare to do it again. Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray in a meeting of senior police officials today gave clear instructions to immediately prepare a court case by appointing special government prosecutors in the case from tomorrow. The Chief Minister also directed the police to be more vigilant and take measures for the safety of women to ensure that Mumbai does not tarnish its image as a safe city.
As soon as the police control room was informed about the incident at Sakinaka, the police rushed to the spot in just ten minutes and rushed the injured woman to Rajawadi Hospital.
The meeting was attended by Chief Secretary Sitaram Kunte, Additional Chief Secretary of Home Department Manukumar Srivastava, Director General of Police Sanjay Pandey, Commissioner of Police Hemant Nagarale, Joint Commissioner of Police Vishwas Nangre-Patil and Milind Bharamba.
The Chief Minister learned about the incident as well as the investigation being carried out by the police and expressed satisfaction over the overall investigation.
File charge sheet within 1 month
The Chief Minister directed that all the forensic and electronic evidence of the incident as well as the evidence of the witnesses should be properly submitted to the court and there should be no loopholes. He also directed that a charge sheet should be filed within a month and a special government prosecutor should be appointed from tomorrow without waiting for the case to be heard in court.
The case will be taken to court soon
The Chief Minister also said that it was the responsibility of all of us to bring the unfortunate woman victim to justice as the case would be taken to a speedy court and the accused would be severely punished.
On this occasion, the Chief Minister said that Mumbai is known as one of the safest cities in the country. People have faith in the police and law and order. But we have to be more vigilant because of such incidents.
The Chief Minister made some important instructions to the police, as follows:
Considering the places where women are crowded, the police should increase regular patrols in the area.
Patrols should be stepped up by setting up hotspots in cities where women could be attacked or their safety could be compromised.
Nirbhaya squads consisting of women officers should be set up in every police station and such hotspots should be visited by them from time to time day and night.
With the help of NGOs, homeless and lonely women on the streets should be shifted to safer places and even in such places, the police should keep a close watch.
Strict attention should be paid to suspected perpetrators of sexual assault against women and those with similar backgrounds.
CCTV plays an important role in solving crime, so the process of installing the second phase cameras in the remaining important places in the city should be started immediately.
