Bhandarkar Memorial Award will be given to Dr G B Degalurkar on Friday 24th September.
On behalf of Bhandarkar Prachvidya Sanshodhan Mandir, the Bhandarkar Smriti Award will be given annually to scholars in the field of Oriental Studies (Prachvidya Sanshodhan) in memory of Sir Ramkrishna Gopal Bhandarkar from this year onwards. The first award will be presented to renowned archaeologist Dr G B Degalurkar on Friday (September 24). It will be provided at the hands of Union Minister Nitin Gadkari at 6 o’clock. The event will be held at the Navalmal Firodia Hall of the Society and will be attended by Shivshahir Babasaheb Purandare and the President of the Society Abhayji Firodia, said Bhupal Patwardhan, President of the Executive Board of the Society.
The award was announced at the organization’s recent annual general meeting. The award includes One lakh rupees, insignia, honorarium and ‘Bhandarkari Pagdi’ The event will be shown live on the organization’s Facebook page.
