Bombay Sappers host The Swarnim Vijay Varsh Victory Flame.
Pune: The Swarnim Vijay Varsh Victory Flame, marking the commemoration of 50 years of India’s victory over Pakistan in the 1971 war, was accorded a grand reception at the Bombay Engineer Group and Centre on 9th October 2021. The Victory Flame was given a ceremonious welcome by the veterans of the 1971 war, Veer Naaris and serving officers and other ranks at the Parade Ground of the Centre where the Army Commander, Southern Command hosted the Victory Flame on the podium after being escorted by a ceremonial guard along with a Bhangra and Jhaanj performance. The Bombay Engineer Group and Centre organised a Motorcycle Display and cultural program for all the guests who witnessed a spellbinding act of skill and precision by the team Tornadoes from ASC Centre, Bangalore along with the traditional sport of Malkhamb, Gatka and a martial art display performed by the Bombay Sappers. The war veterans were felicitated by Lt Gen JS Nain, AVSM, SM, GOC-in-C, Southern Command who appreciated the invaluable contribution of the veterans during the 1971 Indo- Pak war.
On 10th Oct 2021, the Bombay Engineering Group and Centre relayed the Victory Flame within its garrison and along the Alandi – Dighi road, with fanfare and pomp, by runners and horseback riders escorting the flame to its second campus at Dighi Hills. The sabre veterans and ex-servicemen of Bombay Sappers were felicitated by Commandant Bombay Engineer Group and Centre during the function, where the Victory Flame was hosted at the Dighi garrison.
