Celebration of completion of 35 years of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj Memorial.
Pune: On the occasion of the 35th anniversary of the sculptural memorial of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj at the Deccan Gymkhana in Pune, a ceremony was held today in the presence of Mayor Murlidhar Mohol. Former MP Pradipdada Rawat, actor Praveen Tarde and former Deputy Mayor Sureshanana Nashikkar, who took the initiative for the memorial, were present on the occasion. Initially, the ceremony started with offering wreaths to the statue of the Maharaja. In which the activists involved in the erection of the monument and the relatives of the deceased were felicitated. At the same time, Sureshanana Nashikkar was felicitated for completing 50 years of her career.
Activists of Dharmaveer Sambhaji Pratishthan and Smarak Samiti inaugurated the memorial which was inaugurated on October 26, 1986, by former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Speaking on the occasion, Pradip Rawat said that Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj is as inspiring as Shivaji Maharaj. Shivshahi was in the breath of all society and still is today. What if there was no Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj? You can’t even imagine this. Today, however, he also questioned what we are achieving by rebuilding the castle walls. Unfortunately, we have also tied great men into castes. Such ceremonies should be held to change this.
Speaking on the occasion, actor Praveen Tarde said, “Any task is a big effort. Sambhaji Maharaj’s memorial is a great example of this. Today, this monument is considered the main identity of Pune. The new executive committee of Dharmaveer Sambhaji Pratishthan was announced at this time. Santosh Raskar was the President and Dr Rajendra Khedekar was appointed.
In the beginning, Sureshanana Nashikkar welcomed everyone by explaining the role behind the program. The program was moderated by Sagar Satpute while Santosh Raskar thanked the audience. The entire Vande Mataram program concluded the program.
