Emphasis should be laid on enabling system in government medical college premises – Medical Education Minister Amit Deshmukh.
MUMBAI: Medical Education Minister Amit Deshmukh has said that the incident at the Government Medical College premises in Yavatmal is very serious and emphasis should be laid on making the system in all Government Medical Colleges in the state more efficient.
A review meeting on Public-Private Partnership (PPP) for setting up a government medical college and an intensive care hospital was held at the ministry today. The meeting was attended by Medical Education Secretary Saurabh Vijay, Medical Education Commissioner Virendra Singh, Medical Education Director Dr Dilip Mhaisekar, Nodal Officer Dr Sanjay Bijwe and other concerned officials.
Mr Deshmukh said that students from various corners of the state are studying in government medical colleges with the dream of becoming doctors. They also live in hostels provided by the college. In such cases, the concerned authorities should give priority to the safety of the students and tighten the security of the CCTV system in the government hospitals and colleges. Also, if you have different routes to get to the hospital and to the dormitory, it will be easier to keep an eye on the outside crowd. The concerned authorities should take necessary action in this regard immediately.
A Public-Private Partnership (PPP) policy has been decided to establish a government medical college and an intensive care unit. As it is proposed to build government medical colleges in some districts of the state according to PPP principle, a report should be submitted by the Directorate of Medical Education on the review of the districts concerned. The report should also provide information on the manpower required for setting up a medical college as well as the equipment required for the hospital. Medical Education Minister Shri Deshmukh suggested that a report in this regard should be submitted in the next 15 days.
