Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari today said that he would do his utmost to provide international standard infrastructure to the Pune metropolis besides speeding up the airport, metro project and river development project. He also expressed the belief that Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj and Sant Tukaram Maharaj Palkhi Marg will be the glory of Maharashtra.
He was speaking at the Bhumi Pujan and Lokarpan ceremony of highway projects at Katraj. On this occasion, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Council Dr Nilam Gorhe, MP Supriya Sule, Girish Bapat, Pune Mayor Murlidhar Mohol, Usha alias Mai Dhore of Pimpri Chinchwad, MLA Chandrakant Patil were present.
Mr Gadkari said, Maharashtra is the land of saints, it is a cultural heritage. The Central Government will extend all possible cooperation for the progress of Maharashtra along with the overall development of the state. Work has been started on two important roads for Pune. We are building a new Green Highway Access Control in Pune Bangalore. If a new Pune is developed on this road, the congestion in Pune will be reduced.
All traffic from Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Telangana, Tamil Nadu and Kerala in the south and Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Delhi, Himachal, Uttarakhand in the north comes from Mumbai to Pune. This traffic will be stopped at Surat. From Surat, there will be 1270 km of highways to Nashik, Ahmednagar, Solapur, Akkalkot, Gulbarga, Yadgir, Kurnool and Chennai. This will reduce all Mumbai-Pune traffic, said Mr Gadkari.
All traffic from Mumbai to Pune, Thane, Kolhapur, Solapur will also be reduced and pollution will also be reduced. This is the Green Highway. Its current length is 1600 km. It will be reduced to 1270 km. This means that the length of this road passing through Maharashtra will be reduced to 500 km. This will save 8 hours on the New Delhi-Chennai journey. This project will be important for Maharashtra, said Mr Gadkari.

Deputy Chief Minister and Guardian Minister Ajit Pawar said that the Bhumi Pujan and Lokarpan ceremony of road projects will definitely help in speeding up the development of the city, speeding up road transport, transportation, trade and industry. A six-lane flyover in the Katraj area will be important to solve the traffic congestion in Katraj Chowk. This flyover will help save time and fuel. He said the bridge would be doubled in view of the increasing urbanization in the Katraj area.
We will work to give a new direction and momentum to the road development in the entire state including Pune in collaboration with the Central Government, said Deputy Chief Minister Shri Pawar. A meeting will be held soon. Also, road development of the state will be planned.
Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Council Dr Nilam Gorhe said that there are some organizations working on the environment in the Pune metropolis regarding pollution. Communicate for their cooperation. He suggested that district-wise review should be done on all the values of air, water and land. He said the flyover would be important for the Katraj area.
