Mumbai: The deadline for submission of caste validity certificate along with nomination papers for Zilla Parishad, Panchayat Samiti and Gram Panchayat elections has been extended; However, in order to get the caste validity certificate, it is necessary to submit the proof of the application made to the verification committee and the guarantee in the prescribed form, said State Election Commissioner U.P. S. Madan gave here today.
Mr Madan said that according to the Zilla Parishad, Panchayat Samiti and Gram Panchayat election program announced by the State Election Commission, the deadline for filing nomination papers was today (Tuesday 6) at 3 pm. It has now been extended to 5 p.m. Candidates have also been given an extension till 12 noon tomorrow (Thu. 7) to submit the affidavit or any proof in this regard and the prescribed form of guarantee to the Caste Validity Verification Committee. This will be a guarantee for the submission of a caste validity certificate within 12 months from the date of the election.
Caste certificate and caste validity certificate were required to be submitted along with the nomination paper, But the state government has amended the relevant law by an ordinance dated 6th December 2021. Therefore, the State Election Commission has now extended the deadline for submission of caste validity certificate for general or by-elections by 12 months, said Mr Madan.
