Setback to Maha Vikas Aghadi in the by-election to Pandharpur-Mangalvedha Assembly seat in Solapur.
In a setback to the ruling Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) in Maharashtra, BJP candidate Samadhan Autade on Sunday won the by-election to Pandharpur-Mangalvedha Assembly seat in Solapur district by defeating his nearest NCP rival by a margin of over 3,700 votes, officials said. Autade defeated Bhagirath Bhalke, son of late NCP MLA Bharat Bhalke, who was fielded by the MVA.
NCP shares power with Shiv Sena and Congress in the Uddhav Thackeray-led MVA government. The NCP and opposition BJP were in a direct fight in this bypoll, which was necessitated following the death of Bharat Bhalke due to post-COVID-19 complications in November last year.

Election results in 2021: Landslide victory despite all central efforts, says Mamata.
Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress looks all set to retain power in West Bengal, shaking off a strong challenge from BJP. TMC has stretched its lead to over 200 seats, while BJP might have to settle for less than 100, as per the latest trends. The Left-Congress-ISF front has clearly been decimated. ‘Bengal saved the country’ Mamata says after the massive win assembly elections.

DMK leads in 142; M K Stalin set to be CM. The counting of votes for the 234-seat Tamil Nadu election 2021 is underway. DMK-led alliance is ahead in 136 seats, followed by AIADMK in 93 assembly constituencies. All exit polls had indicated a clear victory for the M K Stalin-led alliance. In Tamil Nadu, both Dravidian parties — AIADMK and DMK — went into the election without their stalwarts, J Jayalalithaa and M Karunanidhi. Chief Minister K Palaniswami and his deputy O Panneerselvam will cement their position as successors of Jayalalithaa if the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazagham (AIADMK) retains power though it faces an uphill task especially after the rout in the 2019 Lok Sabha election when the DMK-led alliance won 38 out of 39 seats.
The Congress, an ally of the DMK, is in the fray in 25 Assembly segments. Actor-politician Kamal Haasan’s Makkal Needhi Maiam-led combine is also in the fray.

Kerala
Vijayan-led LDF retains Kerala in the historic win. The CPM-led LDF had cast a huge lead over the UDF as per Election Commission trends at 5 pm. The Pinarayi Vijayan government is expected to come back for a second stint. Trends available from the Election Commission at 4:45 pm show that the CPM-led LDF will buck the trend of incumbent governments not getting re-elected in the last four decades in the state. Under the leadership of chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan, the LDF is expected to finish between 95 and 100 seats, eclipsing its 2016 tally of 91 seats. The Congress-led UDF, which had seen a glimpse of the mood of the voters during the local body elections last year, will once again have to play the role of the opposition in the next five years. It is expected to get somewhere between 40 and 45 seats. The BJP, which had opened its account in the state last time with one seat and had expected to win at least half a dozen seats, is staring at a drought. Senior leaders like Kummanam Rajasekharan, K Surendran, Sobha Surendran, and E Sreedharan were all trailing in their respective seats at 4: 45 pm.
