Pune: It is the job of the government to fulfil the dream of housing for the poor and the government officials should fulfil this dream by constructing houses for the people of the state in the shortest possible time. Considering the success achieved in the first phase of Maha Awas Abhiyan for providing permanent houses to the beneficiaries in rural areas, Rural Development Minister Hasan Mushrif has decided to build 5 lakh houses in the second phase. The state-level launch of ‘Maha Awas Abhiyan 2.0’ was done by Mr Mushrif from the Ministry. Minister of State for Rural Development Abdul Sattar (via vision system from Pune Divisional Commissioner’s Office), Additional Chief Secretary of Rural Development Rajesh Kumar, Director of Rural Housing Dr Rajaram Dighe were present on the occasion.

Mr Mushrif said that through the Rural Development Department, various rural housing schemes in the rural areas of the state are succeeding in providing shelter to the homeless with all facilities. As part of this, more than 1260 multi-storied buildings, more than 630 housing complexes and 750 Gharkul Marts have been started in Maha Awas Abhiyan-Grameen (Phase-I) implemented from 20th November 2020 to 5th June 2021. Besides, land has been made available for the construction of houses for 50 thousand 112 landless beneficiaries. In Phase-I, 4 lakh 25 thousand houses have been built physically and the remaining houses will be completed immediately.

Mahaavas Abhiyan 2.0 is from 20th November 2021 to 31st March 2022 and this campaign will be implemented with more speed and quality. Officers-staff should make serious efforts to complete the unfinished houses during the campaign. He appealed for special emphasis on reducing the period of construction of houses.

Minister of State Shri Sattar said that efforts will be made at the government level to solve the problems of providing houses to homeless persons immediately. The road will be paved in collaboration with the revenue department to make space available for the house. The Central Government will be requested to relax the rules if there is any impediment in approving the houses for the needy. Individuals and organizations who have done excellent work in the campaign will be encouraged by giving state level, divisional, district level, taluka level and Gram Panchayat level awards. He hoped that the campaign would be more successful if planning was done keeping in view the problems encountered at the village level.

Mr Rajesh Kumar said that organizations and individuals have done a very good job in Mahaavas Abhiyan Phase-I. Efforts will be made to further reduce the construction period of houses being constructed for the poor in the state. To implement this campaign, with the help of IIT Mumbai, 1,300 rural housing engineers in the state have been trained and their technical capacity has been built. The use of new ideas and techniques during the campaign will also guide the country, he said.

Dr Dighe, Director, Rural Housing, gave a detailed presentation on the campaign in his introduction. Maha Awas Abhiyan-Grameen 2021-22 watch book and poster were released at the hands of the Minister.
