Launch of ‘Underwater Domain Awareness Framework’ course at the University.
Memorandum of Understanding between the University and the National Maritime Foundation.
Pune: Savitribai Phule Pune University has started a new postgraduate diploma course called ‘Underwater Domain Awareness Framework’ in a memorandum of understanding with the National Maritime Foundation under the auspices of the Ministry of Defense.
Savitribai Phule Pune University’s Department of Defense and Tactics signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the National Maritime Foundation, Delhi on Monday 27th December. Prof. Dr Nitin Karmalkar, Vice-Chancellor of Savitribai Phule Pune University, Dr NS Umrani, Vice-Chancellor, Dr Praful Pawar, Registrar, Dr Vijay Khare, Head of Department of Defense and Tactical Sciences, Director General Pradip Chauhan was present on the occasion.
Earlier, the university had three separate Chairs of Excellence from the Ministry of Defense, Army and Air Force. With this MoU, we are now connected to the Navy and will continue to offer more courses in this field in the future.

Pradip Chauhan gave a lecture on ‘Historical and Contemporary Development of Warships: Types, Projects and Basic Features’. Chouhan explained the history of Indian warships from European warships to modern technology in a simple way that would be understood by students as well as the general public. He gave a presentation on how warships changed over time, what were the reasons for their change, what was the purpose behind their design, what were their types. He also answered the questions asked by the students and the audience.
At this time, Dr Vijay Khare said, through this course, it will be possible to do a comprehensive study of marine conservation, marine habitat, underwater noise, ocean mines, marine economics, underwater transportation.
