Libraries should be made online through the latest technology – Higher and Technical Education Minister Uday Samant.
Inauguration of ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’
The State Central Library has about 12 lakh books. In addition to preserving this library, libraries should be made available online to students around the world using state-of-the-art technology for easy access to future generations. The government will extend all possible cooperation for this, said Higher and Technical Education Minister Uday Samant.
The ‘Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav’ was organized at the State Central Library by the Department of Higher and Technical Education, Directorate of Libraries and State Central Library. Secretary-General Administration Indra Malo, Mumbai City Collector Rajiv Nivatkar, Deputy Secretary Higher and Technical Education Pratap Lubal, Library Director Shalini Ingole, Librarian Sanjay Bansod, concerned officials and readers were present on the occasion.
Higher and Technical Education Minister Uday Samant said that libraries should be able to make history available to future generations. Various programs should be organized through the library to make history available to the younger generation. At the same time, a research centre should be started in this library. Efforts are being made at various levels of government to prepare students from Maharashtra for the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) exams. A committee has been constituted for this. Libraries should reach out to the Gram Panchayat level through mobile libraries. This will benefit students in rural areas. Permission will also be given for the sale of books in government libraries, said the Minister, Mr Samant.
Secretary Indra Malo said that on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of Indian Independence, the Library Directorate has organized an important event called ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’. Everyone should participate in various activities organized by the department.
District Collector Rajiv Nivatkar said, “Mahatma Gandhi started the Quit India Movement by announcing ‘Do or Die’ “. This building is a witness to the Quit India movement. The freedom fighters of our country took part in the freedom movement and gave freedom to the country. The ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ is being celebrated to perpetuate the reflection of this freedom movement in our minds.
Shalini Ingole, director of the library, said the country was entering its Golden Jubilee year of independence. Mahatma Gandhi’s ‘Dandi Yatra’ is 100 years old. The festival ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ has been launched from Sabarmati Ashram to mark this historic day. In this connection, various programs and activities are being celebrated from 9th to 15th August 2021 through the Library Directorate under the Ministry of Culture, Government of Maharashtra and the Department of Higher and Technical Education, Government of Maharashtra. Its inauguration ceremony is taking place from the State Central Library, which is the apex library of the state of Maharashtra on 9th August, the day of the historic revolution, informed Mrs Ingole.
Various books on Maharashtra’s cultural, political, geographical, history, science fiction, art, sports and literature in India, India’s political existence, agrarian India, modern technology, Indian modern women, Utung Bharari were exhibited here. The exhibition was inspected by dignitaries.
