Marathi reading culture is strong: D.D. News Deputy Director Nitin Sapre
New Delhi: Maharashtra has a long tradition of literary conventions, large-scale publication of Diwali issues, musicals, etc., and the Marathi reading culture is strong. News Deputy Director Nitin Sapre did it today.
Mr Sapre was speaking at the ‘Reading Inspiration Day’ program organized by Maharashtra Parichaya Kendra on the occasion of the birth anniversary of former President late Dr APJ Abdul Kalam. He said that reading broadens a person’s horizons of knowledge and enhances his personality. Reading increases word wealth and imparts acquired knowledge to others.
Maharashtra has a rich tradition of All India Marathi Sahitya Sammelan, the oldest literary tradition in the country. The state has a long tradition of publishing Diwali issues. All these literary movements have created a rich tradition of reading in Maharashtra. Mr Sapre said that the rich heritage of musicals and other arts is important to enrich the reading culture in the state. He also expressed the expectation that Marathi literature would reach the country and abroad by translating the best works of art in the Marathi language.
Mr Sapre also highlighted the importance of reading from the works of Samarth Ramdas as well as the immense reading done by Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar. On the occasion of the visit of former President Dr APJ Abdul Kalam to Pune, Mr Sapre also shared his experience as a representative of All India Radio Pune.
He said that modern technology has made the journey of reading culture through various electronic media a pleasant one, adding that reading is declining due to changing lifestyles. The lecture was broadcast live on the Twitter handles of the Parichaya Kendra in all three languages and on all the three Facebook pages of the Parichaya Kendra.
