Meeting held under National Tobacco Control Program.
Pune: A meeting of the district level coordination committee under the National Tobacco Control Program was held under the chairmanship of Deputy Collector Himmat Kharade.
Awareness about the ill effects of tobacco should be spread through audio-visual videos. School children should be informed about this. Mr Kharade said that public awareness should be used through social media and action should be taken against those who consume and sell tobacco products.
District Coordinating Officer Dr Suhasini Ghanekar informed about the action taken under the tobacco control program during the year. 19 pieces of training have been conducted on the program and 607 citizens have been counselled this year. Rural and urban police have seized gutka worth Rs 3 crore 78 lakh 53 thousand and hookah and other items worth Rs 9 lakh 83 thousand and four cases have been registered. The Food and Drug Administration seized 3325 kilograms of tobacco products, he said.
