Mohammad Rafi Lifetime Achievement Award presented to Pandit Hridaynath Mangeshkar by the Governor.
Mumbai: Mohammad Rafi was a great singer with divine talent. One can get to know the Lord through good music. Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari hoped that more singers like Mohammad Rafi and Talat Mehmood would be produced in the future, adding that music gives new hope and upliftment to the mind in times of crisis and despair.
He was speaking at the presentation of the Mohammad Rafi Lifetime Achievement Award to veteran musician and singer Pandit Hridaynath Mangeshkar by Governor Koshyari.
At the hands of the Governor, playback singer Kavita Krishnamurthy was also honoured with the Mohammad Rafi Award. In the absence of Kavita Krishnamurthy, her husband and senior violinist Dr L. Subramaniam accepted the award. The award ceremony organized by Spandan Arts was held at Rangsharda Hall, Mumbai.
He sang with Mohammad Rafi in the movie ‘Baiju Bawra’ when he was 10 years old. Hridaynath Mangeshkar recalled that in the film Harishchandra Taramati, Mohammad Rafi sang under his music direction.
Benefiting from God’s gift; Mohammed Rafi helped the poor. He said that Mohammad Rafi was a great singer, musician and a great man.
The event was attended by MLA Ashish Shelar, Pratima Ashish Shelar and Mohammad Rafi’s family members Yasmin and Nasreen as well as music lovers.
Tributes were paid to the late General Bipin Rawat. After the program, Jeevangani was sung by Mohammad Rafi.
