MoU signing Ceremony and Inauguration of PG Diploma Course “Underwater Domain Awareness Framework”.
Pune: The Department of Defence and Strategic Studies, Savitribai Phule Pune University and National Maritime Foundation, New Delhi will sign an MoU to promote the research and policy formation in Maritime Security and Underwater technology. It will involve the exchange of students and faculties for research and the development of a library dedicated to maritime security.
The MoU will be signed on 27th December 2021, at 3:00 PM at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Hall, Main Building, Savitribai Phule Pune University. The chief guest Vice Admiral Pradeep Chauhan, AVSM & Bar, VSM, IN (Retd) Director-General, National Maritime Foundation, New Delhi shall deliver the lecture on “Historical and Contemporary Development of Warships: ‘Types’, ‘Classes’, ‘Projects’ and Inherent Characteristics of Warships”.
The chief guest shall also inaugurate the PG Diploma Course “Underwater Domain Awareness Framework.” Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Nitin Karmalkar will chair the program and Hon’ble Pro-Vice-Chancellor Principal (Dr.) N. S. Umarani and Registrar Prof. (Dr.) Prafulla Pawar shall be guest of Honour. Prof. (Dr.) Vijay Khare, Head of Department of Defence and Strategic Studies and Capt. Anand Dixit, President of Indian Maritime Foundation, Pune, shall host the program.
The course is designed to help multi-disciplinary students to understand the elements of ocean science and thereby have a better understanding of military and non-military applications of Underwater Technology. The study of oceans and the seas surrounding India is of utmost importance for our national security and economy. This course is intended to fill in the vital gap in our education and introduce the students to an unfamiliar realm of oceans and the underwater world.
Underwater Domain Awareness is a holistic approach to a subject that has Strategic, Geopolitical and Maritime perspectives. After completion of the course, the career opportunities can be explored in Environmental regulatory bodies or environmental organisations working in the field of underwater noise generation and its impact on marine habitats; offshore oil platforms and pipelines – Inspection and Maintenance; Deep Sea Diving and Recreational Diving.
