Mumbai: Deputy Chief Minister and Finance and Planning Minister Ajit Pawar had promised to increase the MLAs’ local development fund from Rs 2 crore to Rs 3 crore in the future. Ajit Pawar has kept this word and has added another Rs 1 crore to the local development fund of MLAs, so now each MLA will have Rs 4 crore every year for development work in his constituency. Opposition MLAs, including the ruling party, are happy with Ajit Pawar’s decision and have received a big gift on the eve of Dussehra.
The country, along with the state, has been facing a corona crisis for the past year and a half. Against the backdrop of this corona crisis, the central government has frozen the development fund of MPs. Therefore, MPs do not have any funds available for local development works. On the other hand, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar had announced in the House to increase the local development fund of MLAs in the state by one crore to three crores and also promised to increase the local development fund of these MLAs in future. In keeping with this word, Ajit Pawar has increased the development fund of MLAs to Rs 4 crore. The increase in the local development fund of the MLAs will help in paving the way for the development work of the general public.
A total of 350 MLAs, 288 in the Legislative Assembly and 62 in the Legislative Council, will get additional funds of Rs 350 crore. Therefore, all the MLAs across the state will now get a total local development fund of Rs. 1400 crore every year. This is by far the largest increase in the local development fund of MLAs in the history of the state. Besides, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar had given permission to the MLAs to spend Rs 1 crore each from the MLAs’ local development fund for corona prevention measures.
