OBC Janamorcha delegation meets CM

Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray’s directive to resolve the pending issues of other backward classes immediately

Stating that the state government is committed to the progress of every section of the OBC community and will not be reluctant to provide funds for them, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray directed the concerned secretaries to take immediate action and report on the pending issues of the OBC community. He also demanded that the imperial data from the central government be given to the state.

On behalf of OBC Janamorcha, a delegation led by former MLA Prakash Shendge called on Chief Minister Mr Thackeray at Sahyadri Guest House today. Food and Civil Supplies Minister Chhagan Bhujbal, Other Backward Classes, Social Welfare Minister Vijay Vadettiwar, Industries Minister Subhash Desai, Chief Secretary Sitaram Kunte, Additional Chief Secretary of Finance Manoj Sounik and Secretary of Rural Development and General Administration were also present.

On this occasion, the Chief Minister said that priority would be given to Maharashtra State Other Backward Classes Finance and Development Corporation, Shamrao Page Konkan Other Backward Classes Corporation as well as Vasantrao Naik and Punyashlok Ahilya Devi Holkar Corporation as required. The Chief Minister also said that immediate action should be taken to start sub-centres of Mahajyoti at divisional places in the state and to appoint independent staff officers to Mahajyoti.

The delegation demanded that the state should conduct a caste-wise census on the lines of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. In this context, Minister Shri. Bhujbal has demanded imperial data from the Center and this issue is also being raised by the state through the ongoing Parliament session. He also said that there is an option to make the data available through the commission.
Minister Shri. Vadettiwar said the decision has already been taken to start 72 hostels for OBC students and they will start soon.

Laxman Gaikwad demanded that nomadic and destitute castes should be rehabilitated in a proper manner and Vimukta Day should be celebrated on 31st August. The Chief Minister was directed to take action on this demand.

The meeting also discussed political reservations in local bodies, tuition fees and scholarships to OBCs, bogus certificates in caste verification, Tanda Vasti Improvement Committee and directed the Chief Minister to take appropriate action by the concerned secretaries.
The delegation includes Chandrakant Bawkar, Dnyaneshwar Gore, J. D. Tandel, Laxman Gaikwad, Haribhau Shelke, Ganesh Hake, And. Pallavi Renke and others.
