MUMBAI: Urban Development Minister Eknath Shinde today instructed to conduct structural, fire and electrical audits of all hospitals and covid centres in the Mumbai metropolitan area in the wake of rumours that the corona variant found in some countries, including South Africa, is more dangerous than the Delta. The Urban Development Minister also directed that all the hospitals, as well as ICUs, oxygen and ventilator equipment in Covid treatment centres, should be inspected and made operational.

At the suggestion of Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, Urban Development Minister Eknath Shinde today convened an emergency meeting of all District Collectors, Municipal Commissioners and Municipal Chiefs in the Mumbai metropolitan area as per the instructions of Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray.

On this occasion, Urban Development Minister Eknath Shinde said that the number of corona patients has been declining in the state for the last few days, although it is a matter of satisfaction Mr Shinde also instructed the Municipal Corporations and Municipal Hospitals to be ready to deal with the situation. He also directed to check the condition of oxygen and ventilator systems in the hospitals, check the ICU rooms, oxygen plants and ventilators in the hospitals to ensure that they are in good condition.

The use of masks by ordinary citizens has been observed in many places and there is a need to control unnecessary crowds. Urban Development Minister Eknath Shinde also directed all Municipal Corporations and Municipalities to create awareness among the people regarding the use of masks and sanitisers.

The Municipal Corporation of Mumbai, in consultation with the Airport Authority, directed to make available to all the Municipal Corporations a list of the passengers who have arrived in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, Urban Development Minister Mr Shinde said. He also instructed all the Municipal Corporations to get the information of the passengers from the 10 countries where the new dangerous variant of the Corona was found through the Assistant Commissioners. Mr Shinde was also instructed to collect the list of passengers arriving from high-risk countries in the last 14 days from the airport. Instruct all the Municipal and Municipal Heads to be vigilant by holding meetings of the officers under their jurisdiction. The Urban Development Minister was also instructed to inspect all the systems.

At this time, the Additional Commissioner of BMC Suresh Kakani informed about the measures taken against the background of possible danger. He said that institutional segregation would be made compulsory for passengers who landed at the airport and they would not be segregated at home under any circumstances. He said that all the hospitals in the BMC area, as well as Covid treatment centres, will be tested after structural, fire and electrical audits. He also said that the ventilator will be inspected and equipped so that it can be used as required. Kakani said. If any patient of the deadly variant is found in a building, the entire building will be sealed. Kakani said.

Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation has instructed all medical officers and employees to be vigilant by holding meetings. Municipal Commissioner Abhijit Bangar said that instructions have been given to divert RTPCR from foreign passengers every day.
