Plan with a view to setting up government medical colleges in every district – Medical Education Minister Amit Deshmukh.
Mumbai: Over the last one and a half years, the outbreak of the Covid virus has increased in the country and the state, which has put a strain on the medical system in the state. However, Medical Education Minister Amit Deshmukh said that it is necessary to work towards setting up a government medical college in every district in the near future.
A review meeting on the prospective plan of Maharashtra University of Health Sciences for the next 5 years was held at the Ministry under the chairmanship of Medical Education Minister Amit Deshmukh. Secretary of Medical Education Department Saurabh Vijay, Medical Education Commissioner Virendra Singh, Director of Medical Education Dr Dilip Mhaisekar, Under Secretary of Medical Education Department Dr Shri Pu Kotwal along with concerned officers of Maharashtra University of Health Sciences were present.
Medical Education Minister Shri Deshmukh said that today the need for government medical hospitals in every district of the state has been underlined. Therefore, it is necessary to plan for the funds required for the construction of this hospital, skilled manpower as well as how the hospital can be built. The states of Kerala, West Bengal and Karnataka have skilled nurses and are in demand across the country. It is also necessary to study what different training is given to these nurses, what is their curriculum, what is the policy of those states regarding starting nursing college.
Maharashtra University of Health Sciences is an important university in the country and planning needs to be done in the interest of the students. The curriculum needs to be planned according to the changing circumstances and the needs of the students while considering the next five years. Mr Deshmukh also said that the university should focus on paramedical courses, hospital management, research in various courses, AYUSH integrated courses.
For the last one and a half years, hospitals have been in dire need of nurses, technicians and lab technicians. Therefore, in the 5-year prospective plan coming through Maharashtra University of Health Sciences, it is necessary to plan courses for nurses as well as supplementary courses required for medical fields.
The Maharashtra University of Health Sciences gives approval to medical institutes in the state to start institutes. Whether the organization is fully complying with the accreditation criteria, the organization must also undergo an academic, foundation and results-based examination. It also needs to be looked at whether the accredited institutions are working according to the rules. Mr Deshmukh also said that a definite policy is needed on how the criteria for accrediting the institutions are determined and the ease of renewal given to the institutions.
