President of India presents Sports and Adventure Awards 2021to three players from Maharashtra.
Tenzing Norgay Adventure Award to climber Priyanka Mohite.
New Delhi: President Ram Nath Kovind today conferred the National Sports Award for the year 2021. This includes three players from Maharashtra. Mountaineer Priyanka Mohite was awarded the Tenzing Norgay Adventure Award.
The Union Ministry of Youth Welfare and Sports organized the National Sports Awards Ceremony for the year 2021 at the Durbar Hall of the Rashtrapati Bhavan. Union Minister for Youth Welfare and Sports Anurag Thakur, Union Minister of State Nisith Pramanik and senior officials were present on the occasion. The players were honoured with the National Sports Award presented by the President.
Every year, the National Sports Awards are announced by the Union Ministry of Youth Welfare and Sports for the outstanding performance of the players. This year, 12 players were awarded the ‘Major Dhyanchand Khel Ratna Award’ and 35 players were awarded the ‘Arjuna Award’. A total of 10 players, as well as sports coaches, were announced as ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’ and ‘Regular Dronacharya Award’ in the ‘Dronacharya’ category. Apart from this, the ‘Dhyanchand Lifetime Achievement Award’ was announced to 5 players from across the country. 2 institutions were awarded the ‘National Sports Promotion Award’ and Punjab University, Chandigarh was awarded ‘Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Trophy’.
Chess player Grandmaster Abhijeet Kunte awarded Dhyan Chand Lifetime Achievement Award
Grandmaster Abhijeet Kunte was given the Dhyan Chand Lifetime Achievement Award by the President for the game of Chess. Mr Kunte has participated in many national as well as international chess tournaments. The Indian Chess Championship (ICC) has won two gold and four bronze medals so far. He won the 2003 British Chess Championship. He had won two medals at the Commonwealth Chess Championship. In the year 2000, Mr Kunte was awarded the title of ‘Grandmaster’. He was awarded the Dhyanchand Lifetime Achievement Award today for his overall successful career in chess.
Himani Uttam Parab and Ankita Raina were awarded the Arjuna Award for their outstanding performance in tennis for the sport of Mallakhamba from Maharashtra. Mallakhamba player Himani Uttam Parab started playing Mallakhamba adventure games from an early age. Himani is very good at doing various exercises on Mallakhamba. She has raised the name of the country including Maharashtra in various competitions. Kumari Himani has won a gold medal in the first International Mallakhamba Competition. Today, she was honoured with the Arjuna Award for her services.
Tennis player Ankita Raina has reached a high standard in the World Tennis Championships. Ankita started playing tennis at an early age. He has won medals in various national and international tennis tournaments. Ankita was born in Gujarat and Raina has been training professional tennis in Pune since 2007.
Tenzing Norgay Adventure Award to climber Priyanka Mangesh Mohite
Mountaineer Priyanka Mangesh Mohite, who set a new record in the sport of mountaineering, was today honoured with the Tenzing Norgay Adventure Award by President Ram Nath Kovind. Kumari Mohite is the first Indian woman to climb Annapurna. He has also climbed other peaks.
