State Election Commissioner appeals to register now to vote in Municipal Corporation, Municipal Council, Nagar Panchayat, Zilla Parishad elections.
Mumbai: In order to ensure that no one is deprived of voting or candidature in the forthcoming local body elections, more and more eligible citizens should register as voters or make necessary corrections on the occasion of a special brief revision of voter lists of Assembly constituencies being conducted by Election Commission of India from 1st to 30th November 2021. State Election Commissioner U. P. S. Madan has done.
Mr Madan said that the electoral rolls of the Assembly constituencies prepared by the Election Commission of India are used for the local body elections of Municipal Corporations, Nagar Parishads / Nagar Panchayats, Zilla Parishads / Panchayat Samitis and Gram Panchayats. The State Election Commission does not take any action in the form of adding new names, omitting names or correcting names or addresses while dividing the voter list into wards for local bodies elections. Therefore, a special brief revision is a good opportunity to register names, omit duplicate names or make corrections between names or addresses if the name is not in the Assembly voter list.
Although voter registration is an ongoing process, this special campaign is being implemented from November 1 to November 30, 2021. January 1, 2022, is the qualifying date. This means that a person who has completed 18 years of age on January 1, 2022, can now register as a voter. Proof of residence and age only for voter registration; Also need a photograph of yourself. Mr Madan also informed that a large scale voter registration drive is being carried out in the state with the cooperation and coordination of the State Election Commission, Chief Electoral Officer, District Collector and Municipal Commissioner.
