Mumbai: – Good suggestions have been received from many states in the country to make the Goods and Services Tax (GSTN) simple, smooth and flawless by making effective use of information technology. Central and state-level officials of GSTN have been directed to prepare a comprehensive report within a month after reviewing the suggestions received from the remaining states. After presenting the report at the next meeting of the Central Standing Committee on GSTN Reforms, the group of ministers will consider it appropriately and make appropriate recommendations to the GST Council, said Ajit Pawar, Deputy Chief Minister, Finance Minister and head of the Union Ministerial Group.
A meeting of the Union Ministerial Group, headed by Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, was held online today to strengthen the Goods and Services Tax (GSTN) system through information technology. Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar attended the meeting from the Ministry. Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, Haryana Deputy Chief Minister Dushyant Chautala, Chhattisgarh Trade Tax Minister T. S. Dr Singhdev, Finance Minister of Tamil Nadu Palanivel Tyagarajan, Chief Executive Officer of GSTN Manish Sinha and other senior officials of GSTN Central and concerned states attended the meeting online. Additional Chief Secretary of the State Finance Department Manoj Sounik, Principal Secretary Financial Reforms Rajagopal Deora, State Tax Commissioner Rajiv Mittal were also present during the meeting.
Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar said that through information and technology, we are trying to make the system stronger and more capable by removing the flaws in the GSTN system. Many states have sent useful suggestions for this. Suggestions are also expected from the rest of the states. Central and state-level officials will sit together and study all the suggestions received from the states and submit a report to the group of ministers within a month. The Group of Ministers will consider it and make appropriate recommendations to the GST Council. Other members also agreed with the Deputy Chief Minister.
A mechanism to curb fraudulent registration, de-registration of fraudulent registrations and tax evaders, expeditious and expeditious disposal of tax returns, analysis of taxpayers’ information and detection of fraud as well as provision of useful information on GSTN to the concerned states. Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar directed the officials to make presentations on such issues in the next meeting. The meeting also discussed the issue of safeguarding the interests of the states with regard to GST. Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, Haryana Deputy Chief Minister Dushyant Chautala, Chhattisgarh Trade Tax Minister T. S. Dr Singhdev, Finance Minister of Tamil Nadu Palanivel presented his views to Tyagarajan and others in the meeting. Manish Sinha, Chief Executive Officer of GSTN, also made a presentation on the current status and future of GSTN.
