The first case of Zika was found in the Pune district; The patient was completely cured.
A patient with Zika disease has been found at Belsar in Purandar taluka of Pune district and this is the first case of this disease in Maharashtra. The woman, who was infected with Zika, has completely recovered and no one in her family has any symptoms, the health department said.
A 50-year-old woman from Belsar village has contracted the virus on July 30, 2021. This is the first Zika patient found in Maharashtra. The health department said the patient was also infected with chikungunya, a mixed virus.
Today, on 31st July, State Survey Officer Dr Pradeep Awate, Assistant Director, Elephant Disease Dr Kamalapurkar, State Entomologist Dr Mahendra Jagtap, a state-level rapid response team visited Belsar village and inspected the situation. The team held an emergency meeting of Sarpanch and Gram Panchayat members, staff of primary health centre, all medical officers of Purandar taluka, health workers and instructed them about the action to be taken after finding Zika patients in the area.

Zika virus disease is a mild disease caused by Aedes aegypti mosquitoes and 80% of the patients have no symptoms. Other patients may have symptoms such as fever, body aches, itchy eyes, acne, and joint pain.
