The number of airports across the country will go up to 250 in the next 4-5 years, says Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia.
Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia today said, in the next 4-5 years, the number of airports will go up to 250 in the country. He said, under Udaan Scheme, the government not only provided connectivity for small cities but also constructed 63 airports and heliports.
Replying to questions in the Lok Sabha, Mr Scindia said, in the last seven years, the number of airports has doubled to 130. He, however, said the government has not formed a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) for the development of Regional Transport Aircraft (RTA).
The Minister said Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) has produced over 80 AVRO aircraft with a seating capacity of 36 passengers for commuter operations. Mr Scindia said the government has taken many measures to strengthen the ecosystem for aircraft leasing and financing in the country.
