According to the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the omicron type of covid virus is three times more contagious than the delta type.
In a letter written by Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan, the state and Union Territory governments should start a war room and take immediate action at the district and local level.
Delta types are still found in some parts of the country. Therefore, foresight, information sharing, good judgment as well as prompt and rigorous prevention are required at the local as well as the district level, the letter said.
It also said that the situation should be constantly monitored keeping in view the latest statistics of the spread of the Covid-19 virus, hospital facilities, manpower, declaration of restricted areas should be taken into consideration.
