The proposed power-law will be effective for the safety of women – Legislative Council Deputy Speaker Dr Neelam Gorhe.
Mumbai: Many women still have to face various crises. Education is on the rise. Even today, women should be aware of their rights and entitlements. There are laws to protect women from oppression. There is a need for public awareness about these laws at various levels, said Dr Neelam Gorhe, Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Council.
On behalf of ‘Stree Aadhar Kendra’, a seminar on ‘Women’s Empowerment and Security of Women’ was concluded on the occasion of the Global Fortnight Against Violence against Women. Dr Gorhe was speaking at the time when the new power law of the Maharashtra government was discussed.
Deputy Speaker Dr Gorhe said that various initiatives are being taken from time to time to provide counselling and legal guidance to the women regarding the family problems arising out of them and the injustice being done to them. In cases of violence against women, the victim should be heard. When do women talk about injustice, by what law can they get justice and support? What measures can be taken in this regard? They need to be informed in this regard.
